Nature & Outdoors
Gredos: a region made for living
The Sierra de Gredos Regional Park is a haven for those seeking more than just scenery. Hiking trails through oak and boulder fields, ascents to the highest peaks of the Central System, swims in crystal-clear pools, birdwatching in one of Spain's richest ornithological corridors, nights under a Starlight-certified sky, and the calm of gathering mushrooms at dawn among ancient pine trees.
There are paths for everyone: from peaceful family strolls to high-mountain treks for the most demanding.
A paradise for outdoor sports
The Tiétar Valley boasts some of the most spectacular cycling routes in the central Iberian Peninsula, for both mountain biking and road cycling. But the offerings go much further: paragliding over the valley, kayaking on the Tiétar, canyoning, climbing, horseback riding through dehesas and pine forests, adventure parks for the whole family, fishing in river preserves... and even golf in Candeleda, with the mountains as a backdrop.
History and culture in every village
The Tiétar is not just nature. It is also slate and granite architecture, traditional festivals, and heritage ranging from the Celtic fort of El Raso to the Roman road, from the Castle of Álvaro de Luna to the Monastery of San Pedro de Alcántara. The Eagle Caves, the Bee Museum, local markets, and the festivities of each village complete an experience that goes beyond hiking.
The Valley's Table
Leaving without eating well would be a mistake. The cuisine of the Tiétar Valley is hearty, honest, and seasonal: "patatas revolconas" (mashed potatoes with paprika), "cochifrito" (fried suckling pig), Avileña beef steak, kid goat chops, Ávila beans, mountain cheeses, and cured sausages. And to finish, the traditional sweets that each village guards as a secret.
